After learning about the death of the CT6 along with t he slew of other GM models, we were all wondering what was going to happen to the in house developed twin turbo 4.2 L V8. Developed specifically for the CT6-V it looked to bring some serious cred and performance back to Cadillac. Putting out 550 horses and 627 lb/ft of torque, this thing is a monster. But the killing of the CT6 meant that very few people would ever get to experience it. That looks to not be the case (thank god).
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! from a Cadillac rep that spoke to them, that said the engine is going to end up in the Escalade and next gen CTS-V replacement (CT5). With that replacement coming next year in what is to be a surely lighter sedan, this thing could put down some serious performance numbers. They are expecting a power bump due to the 4.2 not quite matching the power output of the current CTS-v. It ending up in the Escalade has me scratching my head though and would likely see it in a next gen, whenever that is. They are also speculating that due to the 4.2 being built at the Corvette’s Bowling Green plant, that the engine could see duty in the Vette (and maybe that mystery Cadillac we keep seeing the key for) as well. What do you guys think about this?

I guaran-damn-tee you that engine is going in at least one variant of the mid-engine Vette.

I mean 600+ lbft of torque would be pretty nice in a car the size of the Escalade.

It would have too. Millions in development would have been lost if it didnt. I dont even think that was part of the original plan. The CT6 dying probably blindsided everyone with plans for this engine being Cadillac, or at least CT6 specific . Or, and I doubt this is the case but you never know, this could be a replacement for the small block used in the Vette.

Why doesn’t Cadillac have a smaller suv to stick this in? I see a buttload of AMG, Audi S, and BMW M -whatever SUVs driving around.

They probably spent that much on this before canceling it:

I’m sure this engine will make it into the new Chevrolet Fiero...

Because GM couldn’ t do a GLC AMG /Q 3/S Q5 properly. To be right, it would have to be Cadillac specific. Though this V8 is a beast, it would be wasted on something that’ s fwd based and is also a Buick or a Chevy.

Or that Ultra engine that was supposed to replace the Northstar.

Could you imagine if the Kappa twins had survived at Chevy and Cadillac and this had gone in it?

Seems like it would be a worthy replacement for the L86 in the Escalade.

A smaller Escalade.

I can imagine it. But I even if the financial crisis and GM bankruptcy didn’t happen, Kappa was gonna die anyway.
People like to rag on Tesla for build quality, but Tesla’s issues are nothing compared to the build quality and other
issues the Kappa cars had.

I loved the Kappa cars. Actually thinking about buying one. But I never heard anything bad about them. Aside from the fact that they were the definition of parts bin. With everything from lights to accept switches being pulled from other GM vehicles.

Yea right. GM will never let Buick get close to Cadillac like that.

Not necessarily—the Navigator only comes with the 3.5 EcoBoost V6 tuned to 450 hp. A n Escalade with the 4.2 TT V8 would smoke a Navigator and the torque is more than sufficient for towing.

I loved how they looked as well. But they were nowhere near as well built or reliable as a Miata. Less practical than a Miata too.
If you ever get one, read this thread first:

Yea they are a toy in the most impractical way. The truck shouldn’t even be considered a trunk.
Thanks for that link though. It was comprehensive as hell and I'm going to save it when/if I go looking for one.

Note that I’m of the opinion you can have a good ownership experience with an “unreliable” car. You just have to arm yourself with knowledge so you can preemptively avoid problems.

Exactly.
